Lisa Vetten

Lisa Vetten is a Senior Researcher and Policy Analyst. She has worked in the area of violence against women as a counsellor, trainer, researcher and activist since 1991. She was employed as the Program Manager of the Gender Program of the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation (2000CSVR) from March 1998 to April 2006. Prior to that she worked for the Sexual Harassment Education Project (2000SHEP), the South African NGO Secretariat for Beijing and People Opposing Women Abuse (2000POWA). She has written a number of articles and reports on the subject of gender-based violence and related matters. Her publications include:

  • Spiral of Entrapment: Battered women in conflict with the law.", a book co-authored with Hallie Ludsin
  • "Uncharted Territory: The Imprisonment of Women in Africa" a chapter in the HSRC publication "Human Rights in African Prisons" Jeremy Sarkin(2000ed.) 
  • "Violence against Women in South Africa" Chapter 7, Part 3 in the HSRC publication "State of the Nation: Southern Africa 2007". Sakhela Buhlungu, John Daniel, Roger Southall, Jessica Lutchman (2000eds)
