Congratulations to staff member Thami Nkosi, and board member Thoko Budaza for being placed on the Mail and Guardians top 300 young people to take to lunch.

Congratulations to board member Kumi Naidoo who is now the global director of Greenpeace.

We are proud to announce that our co-directors have been appointed to two high level UN groups:

  • Bafana Khumalo on the Global Task Team (2000Working group on Advocacy, and Resource, Capacity Strengthening, Mobilisation) on operationalising the UNAIDS Action Framework addressing Women, Girls, Gender Equality and HIV
  • Dean Peacock as part of the UN Secretary General's Network of Men Leaders.

Sonke's Board of Directors

Over the past three years, the Sonke Board has played a pivotal role in providing direction and oversight for the organisation. Their combined knowledge and experience has helped Sonke stay true to its objectives and grow in a sustainable manner.

Upcoming Events

On 31 August, we will be back in the Equality Court for the next appearance in the Julius Malema case. Sonke will be demonstrating outside both the Johannesburg and Cape Town Equality Courts in support of this action.

From 5th-9th October, Sonke and MenEngage will be hosting the MenEngage Africa Symposium looking at Strengthening Civil Society and Government Capacity to Work with Men and Boys to Respond to Gender-Based Violence and HIV across Africa.

Pledge your commitment: Be a Brother for Life

Brothers for Life is a national initiative by Johns Hopkins Health and Education in South Africa (2000JHHESA), Sonke Gender Justice (2000Sonke), South African National Aids Council (2000SANAC) and other key stakeholders aimed at addressing the risks associated with having multiple and concurrent partnerships, men’s limited involvement in fatherhood, lack of knowledge of HIV status by many, low levels of testing and disclosure, and insufficient health seeking behaviours in general.
