With a full-time staff of about 100 people working from offices in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Bushbuckridge, Sonke works globally, and especially across Africa, to strengthen government, civil society and citizen capacity to take action to promote gender equality, prevent domestic and sexual violence and reduce the spread and impact of HIV and AIDS. Sonke Gender Justice is currently looking for a full time Resource Mobilisation Manager to lead on its resource mobilization strategy and fundraising activities.

Key Functions:

  • Develop, plan, implement, manage and oversee all aspects related to resource mobilisation for the organisation.
  • Explore and develop strategies for long-term sustainability of the organisation and its programmes, jointly with the Senior Management Team and Programme Managers.
  • Identifying donor opportunities, develop donor database, respond to donor tenders and call for proposals, develop grant proposals, write appeals, represent the organisation at donor meetings and undertake follow-up of potential funding opportunities.
  • Maintain a database of grant proposals and report deadlines for organisational grants;
  • Maintain a funding register for auditing purposes
  • Develop business plans in consultation with managers for possible generation of long-term incomes for the organisation.
  • Undertake online research and build contacts with potential individual donors and raise funds for the programmes of the organisation.
  • Work with the Communications Manager to improve and develop communications material for the organisation such as brochures, website, annual reports, etc.
  • Liaison with private agencies, the government and other organisations to explore potential collaborations for raising funds for the organisation.
  • Develop other innovative ideas for effective resource mobilisation for the organisation.

Requirements:

  • Advanced degree in Development Studies, Law, Sociology, Industrial Psychology, Business Science, Commerce or extensive related experience
  • Experience and interest in non-profit management and administration
  • Experience working with large budgets and multiple donors
  • At least 5 years working experience on issues related human rights, GBV and HIV and Aids, gender equality
  • Minimum 5 years relevant professional working experience in a senior role in marketing, public relations or corporate social investment
  • Proven leadership on projects, preferably those related to organisational change, growth or expansion
  • Strong research and analytical skills;
  • Able to write clearly, concisely and persuasively;
  • Detail oriented, excellent organisational and multi-tasking skills; ability to adhere to deadlines; punctuality and regular attendance required
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills across diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Ability to work efficiently with competing demands
  • Able to work independently and in a multicultural team.
