Church fights for right to spank children

Lead story on the front page of today’s Cape Times is on Sonke’s successful case at the Human Rights Commission dealing with the Joshua Generation Church’s encouragement of corporal punishment. How does a church endorse assaulting children? Here’s the language on their website: “Remember, a spanking must cause some pain otherwise it is useless and your child will remain unchanged. It is most effective to strike a light rod against bare skin. No bruising, no injury.”
