Final day of meeting on Community Mobilisation for Health, Human Rights and Gender Justice

Our conference on Community Mobilisation for Health, Human Rights and Gender Justice ends today. Organised by Sonke, the Wits School of Public Health, UCT School of Public Health, University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, University of California San Francisco and the Centre for Health and Social Justice, Delhi, the conference has brought together academics, NGOs and activists from different backgrounds and countries to share experiences, challenges and innovative ideas around community mobilisation.

Today’s programme starts at 9:00 a.m. with reflections of lessons learned yesterday, followed by the running order at 9:30 a.m.

RUNNING ORDER:

9:30 – 11:00 NEW FORMS OF ACTIVISM FOR SOCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY.

  • Steven Robins: Slow activism in fast times.
  • Member of Equal Education/Equal Education Law Centre on Social Audits to monitor the right to sanitation in schools.

11:00 – 11:30 TEA

11:30 – 1:00 INSIGHTS AND LEARNING:

Group work – to focus on final objective “Generate suggestions and insights for how Sonke and partners can deepen social accountability and community mobilisation work” and plenary.

1.00 – 2:00: LUNCH

2:30 – 4:00 Tour of Constitution Hill, including the women’s gaol, the old fort prison and the Constitutional Court.
