Andre Lewaks is managing Sonke’s MenCare Programme and is situated at the Cape Town office. Andre is a social work activist and has been involved in the establishment of the South African Social Services Union, where he currently serves as the spokesperson. He is currently a member of the Provincial Executive Committee of National Association of Social Workers. Andre is a social worker by profession and have obtained a BDIAC Degree in Social Work at the Huguenot College as well as a Masters in Child and Family Studies at the University of the Western Cape. He has also completed course work towards a Masters degree in Social Policy and Social Interventions at Utrecht University in the Netherlands.
He has started his career as a social worker for Child and Family Welfare in Lamberts bay and soon joined the Department of Social Development as a Community Development Practitioner. He also served the Department of Social Development as a Regional HIV/AIDS Coordinator, Child Protection Coordinator, Provincial Victim Empowerment Coordinator and Social Work Policy Developer where he was responsible for Coordinating the department’s fatherhood programme for the Western Cape Province. Andre joined Sonke Gender Justice in March 2014 as the Manager for MenCare South Africa.
