Joyce Dlamini started working for Sonke since September 2009 as a volunteer in the Refugee Health and Rights project. Afterwards she became a Peer Educator mobilising refugees for workshop events, conducting workshops on gender, HIV and Aids and refugee rights. Prior to joining Sonke, Joyce was working for United Africa against HIV/AIDS (UAAH) as a health care worker. She has also worked as a staff nurse at Garden City Clinic in the Paediatric Ward. She also volunteered at Triomf counselling teenage rape victims. Joyce has vast experience in the HIV and Aids field. She did her internship at Ithlokomeleng Hospice in Alexandra (Johannesburg) after completing a Diploma in Nursing. Joyce has been involved in community work in partnership with a church in Hillbrow. Her role was to work with street children especially girls to access contraceptives, raising awareness around prevention of HIV and Aids and pregnancy. Joyce is currently completing an advanced certificate course in Gender and HIV.
