Tapiwa Manyati

Tapiwa ManyatiFrom Zimbabwe, Tapiwa joined Sonke Gender Justice Network in June 2009 as the Media, Advocacy and Donor Liaison Coordinator based in Johannesburg. Subsequently, he moved to Cape Town where he is now the Communications and Information Assistant since January 2010.

In 2003, Tapiwa started working as an intern at Padare /Men’s Forum on Gender under auspices of the Zimbabwe AIDS Network Student Adapt programme which is meant to assist civic society organisations with technical assistance in programming and project implementation. In 2004, Tapiwa was employed by Padare to work on media, community mobilisation and advocacy as well as developing materials for training men and boys in communities. He later became the Knowledge Management Officer and was involved in writing for the newspapers monthly advertorials on masculinity and what boys and men can do to end sexism and violence against women and children in schools, the workplace and the communities. Tapiwa also pioneered the production of an anti gender-based violence music CD which was recorded with Zimbabwean artists called Amadoda Oq’oto/Real Men against gender-based violence, the spread and impact of HIV and Aids. In 2008 he was involved in fundraising for the Padare Schools Programme and training school young boys on gender, masculinities and the resocilisation process. Padare is an internationally recognised organisation as well as a member of the MenEngage Alliance, an international alliance of over 400 organisations working with men and boys to achieve gender equality.
